Becara was founded in 1964.

In the sixties, Spain as a country  was still very closed to the outside world due to its’ policy of isolationism.  The founder and today the president of Becara, Begoña Zunzunegui, was educated in England and after marrying lived in the United States. When she moved back to Madrid she realised that the gift and furniture sector in Spain was at a standstill. There was nothing. Begoña started importing opaline from Portugal, tableware from England and ceramics from Italy together with Antiques which she also acquired from English auctions. She set up in Lope de Vega street in Madrid “de los Austrias” and from there started straight away to sell to the most prestigious shops all over Spain.
